Construction of the new public park in Kalama is expected to commence immediately.

KALAMA, WASHINGTON (PRWEB) AUGUST 18, 2014

The Port of Kalama Board of Commissioners has awarded the bid for the construction of Haydu Park—a part of the recent East Port annexation —to Tapani Underground, Inc. Construction is scheduled to begin immediately and is expected to be complete by Spring of 2015.

When completed, Haydu Park will include 24 acres of baseball and soccer fields and an expo area—up from the current eight acres—allowing baseball and soccer teams to play simultaneously. Haydu Park will also include access to several thousand feet of Kalama River frontage.

The project includes three new baseball/softball fields, three soccer/football fields, a horse riding arena, restrooms, a tennis courts, basketball courts, on-site parking, and an expo area that will be used by the Kalama Fair.

“The expected impact of the new Haydu Park cannot be understated for addressing Kalama’s need for additional sports and recreation space,” says Troy Stariha, Commissioner, Port of Kalama. “With the increased space, sports clubs will now have the facilities capable of hosting team tournaments from all over the region which will increase destination tourism and revenues to the area. The funds for construction of these facilities come from Port business activities.”

Haydu Park is named for the family that owned the property for many years. When the family agreed to sell to the Port, they returned $100,000 to the Port for construction of the facilities. “The Port wishes to thank the Haydu family for their generous contribution to the community,” said Mark Wilson, Executive Director, Port of Kalama.
