The Port plans for construction of roads, roundabout, sidewalks, landscaping and rain gardens among other site preparation activities

The Port of Kalama seeks bids for construction of the next phase of the Spencer Creek Business Park. The Port will receive sealed bids at the Port office until February 21, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. for the Spencer Creek Business Park Phase One Project. The mandatory pre-bid meeting will be held at the Port offices this Friday, February 8 at 2:00 p.m.
The next phase of construction will include enhancements to Kalama River Road and Highway 99 including expansion of the roads to include an additional lane for turning, an oversized roundabout to improve traffic flow, street lighting, sidewalks and landscaping features like rain gardens. The area of Kalama River Road that will be impacted begins at Meeker Drive, west to about 200 yards north of Haydu Park, and north to Kress Lake on Hwy 99.
“The expectation is that there will be increased traffic in this area as development continues and we want to do all we can to ensure the ease of traffic flow and amenities for the community like safe walking and bike paths,” says Liz Newman, marketing manager, Port of Kalama. “These upgrades will also improve access to Haydu Park as we continue to build out this Port property.”
The next phase of work at the business park includes all labor, materials, tools, equipment, permits, testing, training and supervision for the construction of the Phase One Project including:
- Site preparation
- Storm drainage
- Other related improvements
The Port of Kalama continues to development of the 70-acre Spencer Creek Business Park, located north of Kalama River Road right off of Interstate 5. The facility will support a mix of light industrial, office, commercial and retail uses including:
- Light industrial
- Convenience store
The Port successfully petitioned to annex its East Port properties including Haydu sports park and Spencer Creek Business Park, into the City of Kalama in 2014. As a result, local city revenues should benefit from upcoming business and leasehold activity. The Port will continue to finance public improvements including new sidewalks, road upgrades and habitat enhancements.
While East Port will be built out over many years, business park construction and operational activities are projected to support more than 1,000 jobs and millions of dollars in new local economic activity.
