New parkway trails, landscaping and parking facilities are under construction now at the Port of Kalama at the north end of Marine Drive. The marina improvement team is working on tree-lined berms, rain gardens, improved parking and walking trails along the Columbia River.
Water main replacement, June 21 to June 28, limits marina parking: We understand that it is peak season for spring fishing and we want you to know how to best access the marina and Port facilities. Next week the marina construction team will be replacing a water main which will restrict some traffic access and parking with the east lane on Marine Drive closed from June 21-28.
Lanes will be well-marked and traffic will be managed to maintain access to the boat launch. There will be very limited parking directly on the site, but parking will be available at the gravel lot to the south of the Port of Kalama administrative building.
Marina Access Reminder: Please remember to use I-5 Exit 30 to access Port of Kalama facilities and the marina. South Hendrickson Road off of Exit 27 will be closed on June 23 due to construction.
The marina boardwalk and the pathways to the south of the Port administration building into the park will be open to visitors during construction. Some pathways will be obstructed at the north end of Marine Drive while landscaping and improvements take place though detours will be well-marked.
Cowlitz County awarded the Port of Kalama a $30,000 grant for the Port of Kalama Trail Improvement Project. The grant enables the Port to improve pedestrian and vehicle separation along West Marine Drive. The improvements are part of the Port’s mission to enhance recreational opportunities and are expected to be completed by late summer.
